David S. Hathaway

Chief Executive Officer David Hathaway has over 30 years of experience in real estate development, financing and management. This includes both residential and commercial developments.

After graduating from Valdosta State University, with a BS in Economics in 1970, David worked for Liberty Savings Bank (now BB&T) where he was instrumental in taking their Savings and Loan entity public. As Senior Vice President, he was responsible for the management of permanent, construction and commercial lending. During his tenure at Liberty Savings (1974-1985), David served as President of a wholly owned subsidiary, Liberty Properties, Inc., a development corporation where he oversaw the development of residential units, lots, condominiums and commercial properties. While serving as president of the holding company, he also served as executive Vice President at Pine State Securities, a wholly owned mortgage company. In 1985, David started Hawk Hill Development, developing and building more than 500 single-family homes. It was this experience constructing single-family homes that led to multi-family development.

In 1988, he founded Hathaway. As an owner, developer and general contractor, he has built single-family residential subdivisions, multi-family residential apartment complexes, condos and commercial properties. Since its inception, Hathaway has developed more than 500 residential lots, over 300 homes and more than 12,500 apartment units, in addition to various commercial properties. Mr. Hathaway is a member of the Georgia Apartment Association and the Atlanta Apartment Association. He is also a Leadership Macon graduate (1978) and has served on the Board of Directors for the Macon Home Builders Association (1988). He is also a member of Sucession Golf Club in Beaufort, SC., and Capital City Country Club in Atlanta, GA.
Daniel Hathaway

Daniel graduated from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville in 1998 and began his construction career shortly thereafter. In 1999, Daniel joined his father, David Hathaway, at Hathaway Development where he worked his way up from Assistant Project Manager to Project Manager to President and Owner of Hathaway Construction Services and Partner at Hathaway Development. During his career, Daniel has been integral in the construction of over 15,000 units throughout the United States, with a primary focus on the Southeast.

In addition to his lengthy construction and development career, Daniel serves in many civic and professional organizations. He has been on the Board of Directors for the Capital City Club in Atlanta, Georgia, and he is also an active Board Member with the Ocmulgee Chapter of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the Atlanta Apartment Association, the U.S. Green Building Council, The Association of Building Contractors (ABC), as well as the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).
Thomas Gunter

Thomas joined Hathaway Development in 2011 and is involved in all aspects of development and acquisitions of market rate multifamily apartment projects. During his tenure with Hathaway, Thomas has been involved in the closing of over $1 billion in transactions. Prior to joining Hathaway, Thomas was a Senior Associate with Silverpeak Real Estate Partners where he spent 3 years in asset management of various real estate asset types for Lehman Brothers Real Estate Private Equity Fund investments. Prior to joining Silverpeak, Thomas was a Transaction Analyst with the mortgage banking firm of IRE Capital Advisors in Atlanta where he was involved in closing over $500 million in transactions. In addition, Thomas held several positions with Turner Broadcasting System in the area of corporate accounting and finance. Thomas’ experience in commercial real estate began in 2003 and he holds a B.B.A. in Finance from University of Georgia and an M.B.A. from Georgia State University.
John Spivey

John Spivey joined Hathaway Development in March of 2015 having previously served as Development Manager for Hathaway from 2005 to 2009. John was named COO of Atlanta Refrigeration in 2009 and continued in that role for 6 years. During his time at Hathaway Development John has been involved in over 3,000 units of ground up multi-family development. His responsibilities include project oversite from inception to completion of all Hathaway Development ground up projects and acquisitions. John attended The University of Georgia and has a B.B.A. of General Business from The Terry College of Business.
Chris Galle
Director of Finance & Portfolio Management →
Chris joined the Hathaway Development team in February 2020 as the Director of Finance and Portfolio Management.

Chris holds a B.A. in Finance from the University of Georgia and is a CFA Charterholder. His career in the real estate industry began at Wells Real Estate Funds where he spent two years as an accountant in the REIT reporting group. He then spent 15 years with Silverpeak Real Estate Partners (and predecessor companies) where he performed many different functions, including portfolio management, asset management and investment underwriting/due diligence for four real estate private equity funds totaling over $7 billion in equity and a portfolio of over 200 direct principal investments.
Marzena Demko

Marzena joined Hathaway Construction in 2004 as a Project Accountant. Since then she has gained experience in construction, development and real estate accounting. In recent years, she has advanced to become a member of development team and has been assisting development to in all aspects of capitalizing, developing and managing new projects, including development analysis, due diligence and various asset management responsibilities. Marzena holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Georgia State University.
Anna Hathaway Browning

Anna joined Hathaway Development in 2018 after two years practicing commercial real estate law. Anna is involved in the ground-up development of multifamily apartment projects, as well as the acquisition of stabilized multifamily communities. Prior to joining Hathaway, Anna was an associate attorney in the Atlanta office of Burr & Forman where she assisted clients in the acquisition and disposition of stabilized multifamily and retail properties, as well as in the drafting and negotiation of commercial leases.

Anna attended the University of Georgia, where she earned an A.B.J. in Advertising and a B.A. in English in 2012. After graduation, Anna attended Charleston School of Law where she earned her J.D. While attending the Charleston School of Law, Anna was an active member of the student community, serving as a teaching fellow for first year legal research, analysis, and writing classes, and as Interim President of Women in Law in her third year. Anna also participated in the NAAC Moot Court Competition as an oral advocate in her second year, and served as Senior Articles Editor of the Charleston Law Review.
Jack Shelton

Jack joined Hathaway Development in January of 2020 after previously working in technology sales. His prior Real Estate experience includes internships at Brasfield & Gorrie and CBRE. Jack primarily focuses on the day-to-day coordination of all ongoing Hathaway Development projects. He also assists in oversight from inception to completion on all ground up projects. A native of Atlanta, Jack graduated from the University of Georgia in 2017 with a B.B.A in Management from the Terry College of Business.
Patrick Silvia
Development Coordinator →
Patrick joined Hathaway in August of 2022. He assists in oversight of all ground up projects from inception to completion, including day-to-day coordination of ongoing development projects. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Patrick graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Business Administration in 2022 with a double major in Managerial Finance and Real Estate.
